This is the moment when Italian doctor Michele D'Angelo, 44, a biology professor at the University of Aquila, was involved in an accident on August 8, 2025, on the Kushovice pass on the Levan-Fier axis, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Elidon Shehaj and the injury of 3 others.

The Italian professor turned himself in to the police the day after the accident, where he was held in custody for two months for "Violation of traffic rules" and "Leaving the scene of an accident." The young man died a few days after the accident in the Trauma Hospital.

While the Italian has been released, the Fier prosecutor's office has closed the investigation and is expected to officially announce the charges. At a press conference in Tirana, D'Angelo's lawyers denied the charges, claiming that their client had followed traffic rules and was not responsible.

Another lawyer, Ilenja Mhehilli, explained the scheme of how the accident occurred, and denied that D'Angelo left the scene.

Ardian Visha, who spoke on behalf of the defense, said that the Italian has been constantly interested in the incident and expressed his willingness to explain the incident at any time.

The accident involved a Lancia Ypsilon driven by the Italian professor and a Mercedes driven by Albanian citizen ES, suspected of having lost control of the car while driving at a speed exceeding the permitted speed limits.
