Footage has emerged of the accident in Bologna, Italy, where an 18-year-old Albanian, identified as Valerio Maksuti, lost his life and another Albanian a year older was seriously injured.

The two young men were being pursued by the police because the car they were driving was stolen.

The driver was a 19-year-old man who, according to Italian police, did not even have a driver's license. He is out of danger in hospital.

Police immediately announced charges of causing an accident resulting in death, theft, and resisting police uniforms.

The young man, who has no criminal record, currently lives in a community that houses both minors and adults. The 18-year-old Albanian who lost his life had also stayed in such a center until recently.

He had a criminal record for theft. The car they were travelling in crashed into a pole on Via Murri in Bologna.

The accident occurred at 5:00 in the morning.

According to initial police reports, the car was spotted by a patrol car on Via Tolmino. Officers approached it while it was stopped at a traffic light. The vehicle, an Audi, sped away towards the traffic light, prompting police to pursue it.

"A tragedy that could have been avoided by respecting the law." This is what Italian Transport Minister Matteo Salvini wrote in X.

"I just hope that now no one will think of prosecuting the police, who do their job by putting their lives at risk every day," he added.
