In the early hours of Sunday morning, Soni Pepa, wanted by Interpol for drug trafficking, also known as Vilson Pepa, part of the Ervis Çela and Franc Çopja group, was extradited from the Dominican Republic.

The State Police announces that, within the framework of the international police operation codenamed "The Wanted", in the early hours of this morning, the procedures for the extradition from Punta Cana/Dominican Republic to our country of the Albanian citizen Soni Pepa alias VP, 41 years old, born in Lushnja, were finalized.

"This citizen was declared wanted after the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime set the personal security measure "Arrest with imprisonment" for the criminal offenses "Drug trafficking", "Committing criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group" and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".

As a result of the information provided by the Criminal Police Department of the State Police and its exchange through Interpol Tirana with Interpol Santo Domingo, the arrest in Punta Cana/Dominican Republic was made possible, finalizing the extradition of this citizen to our country. Citizen SP, at the end of the procedures, was handed over to the General Directorate of Prisons," the police statement said.

The name of the detainee Soni Pepa, 41, is linked to a shipment of 11 tons of cocaine, 600 kilograms of which were seized in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, between November 7 and 8, 2020. He is also accused of financing the purchase of another 10 kilograms in the same city.

According to international reports, Pepa was part of a transnational criminal group operating in several European and South American countries, with the aim of trafficking significant quantities of narcotics. The cargo in question departed from the port of Villetas, Paraguay, with the destination port of Antwerp, Belgium.
