The Prosecutor's Office of Saranda has issued a detention order for the 45-year-old American citizen Kelly Grigg. She was arrested on February 23 of a year ago after a house search by the police of Saranda, which cooperated in the operation with the Special Police Unit "Joint Shield" as well as with the Diplomatic Security Service/Criminal Investigation Office (DSS/OCI of the American Embassy in Albania).

Grigg's arrest was made after a very small amount of "ecstasy" and "cannabis sativa" residue, as well as a knife, were found in his apartment. The court of Saranda released him by imposing the security measure "property guarantee" in the amount of 8 thousand euros and "obligation to appear".

However, Grigg seems not to have respected this measure, forcing Judge Suela Xhani on June 14, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, to change the measure by already setting "Arrest in prison". Meanwhile, the prosecution has issued an order for the execution of this measure, causing the police of Saranda to announce Grigg as wanted. According to the Prosecution, from the verifications in the TIMS system, it appears that on March 18, Grigg left Albania through Rinas and never returned. Although her lawyer said that she was correct with the implementation of the measure, but as she informed the Court in a hearing, her mother was seriously ill, this did not convince the Prosecution and the Court not to change the measure of security.

Although the arrest of American Kelly Grigg in 2022 was said to have come after a search of the apartment that revealed drugs and cold weapons, the motives of the police in the apartment were quite different. Në kuadër të veprimeve hetimore të kryera, nga informacionet e siguruara edhe me aplikimin e metodave speciale të hetimit, është arritur të mësohet se shtetasi amerikan Robert Preston e konsideron shtetasen amerikane Kelly Grigg si njëri shumë të afërt dhe të besueshëm të tij, shtetase kjo që dyshohet se është në dijeni edhe të faktit që shtetasi amerikan Robert Preston kish arritur të mashtronte persona të ndryshëm me qëllim përfitimin e shumave të ndryshme parash. Nga informacionet e siguruara ka rezultuar gjithashtu se dokumentet për të cilat është dyshuar se mund të gjendeshin në apartamentin e shtetases amerikane, janë përdorur nga shtetasi amerikan Robert Preston me qëllim mashtrimin e personave të ndryshëm për arsye përfitimi material duke u prezantuar si punonjës i Departamentit Amerikan të Shtetit apo agjent sekret i shërbimeve të ndryshme të SHBA-së. Ndodhur në këto rrethana, në kuadër të hetimeve paraprake për këtë procedim penal, Prokurori ka vlerësuar të domosdoshëm edhe ushtrimin e kontrollit në apartamentin e shtetases amerikane. Kështu më datë 23.02.2022 është ushtruar kontroll në apartamentin e shtetases amerikane Kelly Grigg, gjatë të cilit është bërë e mundur të gjenden dhe të sekuestrohen me cilësinë e provës materiale 7 kokrra të cilat të dyshuara si “ekstazi”, 1 kuti brenda së cilës kishte mbetje “canabis sattiva” dhe 1 thikë metalike.
