The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja , has stated that the majority has not withdrawn from the Criminal Amnesty.
Manja explained to the media that no person who has been convicted by the Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime will benefit from the Amnesty.
"All these days, the opposition has been talking about Amnesty, and when you listen to only one side, it seems as if the majority withdrew from Amnesty for the criminal offenses of corruption tried by GJKKO. The amnesty that will not have no, no, but no reduction of the sentence for those who have been convicted for corruption and organized crime by GJKKO" - said Manja.
The minister made the statement at the end of the conference on Strengthening Accountability and the fight against corruption, where he evaluated the work done by the new justice system.
"This reform marked an epochal turning point for our country. Today we are no longer talking about a reform in the initial stages, but about a system that produces results by gradually ending impunity in Albania. We are particularly proud that a new reputation of the institutions of the justice system is being formed in Albania. The number of judges and prosecutors left is living proof of a justice that could not do justice as it was caught by corruption," said Manja.
Ministers of Justice of the Western Balkans and Croatia, Heads of Anticorruption Agencies, prosecutors and international organizations participated in this conference.
Meanwhile, the PD has said that it is ready to vote by agreeing to make the change in the first proposal of the amendment for the protesters.
The 'crash' for criminal amnesty
An amendment by the socialists led the chief democrat Lulzim Basha to accuse the SP of trying to save corrupt officials.
However, the SP says that it is only a question of reducing the sentence by 1 year for men and 1 and a half years for women and minors, even for those who have been sentenced by the GJKKO, and not those who are currently being investigated or tried by the SPAK and the GJKKO.
Thus, unable to obtain 84 votes, SP withdrew from the vote last week.
DP leader Lulzim Basha said that he would not vote because the SP intends to forgive the corrupt while making the vote conditional on the pardon of the protesters, an amendment that the SP has accepted, but without forgiving the violent protesters.
Reestablishment has the same claims, but does not promise a pro vote as it is in action. The two PD groups were also supported by PL and allies in blocking the vote on criminal amnesty.
