A serious incident occurred this afternoon at Reç Prison, where it is learned that convict Agron Llapushi committed suicide inside his cell.

According to preliminary information, Llapushi was found hanging with a rope in the prison's shower facilities. He was a resident of Çekin i Gramsh and was serving a sentence for the murder of his wife, Alketa Llapushi, in 2015.

At the time, the 49-year-old had just returned from emigrating to Greece. After a conflict over land in Gramsh, he murdered his wife and then surrendered to the police, where he confessed to the serious crime.

It is learned that the couple had a child. While serving his sentence, he had no meetings with his family, except for two recorded meetings, in 2023 and 2025.

The prosecution had requested life imprisonment, while Llapushi was sentenced to 24 years and 4 months in prison for the criminal offense of "Murder due to family relations." The decision became final on December 10, 2015.

In his testimony after the crime, Llapushi stated that his family was facing economic difficulties and that he had gone through a difficult psychological period. A forensic psychiatric examination was also conducted on his mental state, which concluded that he did not suffer from any mental or neuropsychiatric disorder.
