Tragedy in English football, former Arsenal footballer dies at the age of 21

British football is in mourning after the death of Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal academy striker, aged just 21. The accident occurred during a match between Chichester City and Wingate & Finchley, in the English lower leagues.

In the 13th minute, Vigar collided with a concrete wall near the pitch, suffering a serious brain injury. Despite the immediate intervention of medical staff and transport by helicopter to a London hospital, he died on Thursday morning after emergency surgery.

His family reacted with grief. “The injury was too severe to bear… The family is devastated that this happened while he was playing the sport he loved.”

Chichester City also confirmed the news and asked for the family's privacy to be respected at this difficult time. Billy Vigar came through the Arsenal academy and excelled at the Under-18 and Under-21 sides, before leaving in 2024 without making a first-team debut.
