American team Atlanta United is closing in on a deal to sign Albanian national team center back Enea Mihaj, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Mihaj will join Atlanta this summer as a free agent after his contract with Portuguese club Famalicao expires. He will be eligible to make his debut for Atlanta once the MLS summer transfer window opens on July 24.
Mihaj, 26, has 19 caps for Albania. He began his career in Greece with Panetolikos, then PAOK before moving to Portugal in 2022. He made 82 appearances for Famalicao over three seasons.
The Albanian international appears to be Atlanta's first signing of the summer and fills a major void as the club has sought defensive improvements. Atlanta has had a major overhaul in attack over the past two transfer windows, signing designated players Miguel Almiron, Alexey Miranchuk and new MLS record signing Emmanuel Latte Lath.
With high expectations, Atlanta has struggled in 2025 with 17 points after 18 games. They are in 13th place, eight points below the playoff spot. Atlanta will have 10 games left this season after the transfer window opens. Mihaj is expected to be a key part of the starting lineup when he arrives.
