Mario Balotelli returns to the field again?

Spanish third-tier side Intercity are reportedly looking to sign Mario Balotelli, according to COPE Alicante.

The agreement is expected to be signed in the next few hours.

"Negotiations are not yet closed", explains "Cope", but "important steps have been taken in the last hours".

If realized, 'Súper Mario' would sign for this season and another with the Alicante team. 

The 34-year-old striker is currently without a club after spending last season with Turkish side Adana Demirspor.

Intercity are seriously considering the move as, despite nearing the end of the road as a professional footballer, Balotelli remains a player of international stature who would bring the Spanish club to the attention of the press.

Sources close to the club have suggested that while Intercity are key to the move, they want to be sure of the player's fitness and ability to contribute to the team first.

If Intercity decide to sign Balotelli again, they will have to drop a player from their squad as they already have a full squad.

Balotelli, at the moment, is without a team. His contract with Adana Demirspor has expired and he is still free.

Last season, despite suffering a knee injury that kept him out for more than two months, he scored seven goals in 16 games.

If confirmed, it would be the Italian's tenth team since his debut with Inter in 2007. He has also moved from Manchester City (2010-13), Milan (2013-14 and 2015-16), Liverpool (2014-16) , Nice (2016-19), Marseille (2019), Brescia (2019-20), Monza (2020-21), Adana Demirspor (2021-22 and 2023-24) and Sion (2022-24).
