Leonardo vs. Mbappe: Leaving PSG immediately, he is not a leader

The news that Kylian Mbappe will leave this summer from Paris Saint-Germain seems a done deal, since the French star has told the club that he will not renew his contract that expires next summer.

Thus, the leaders of the club have already "surrendered" to keep Mbappe in the team and his sale is expected to take place this summer.

Mbappe's departure from Paris was also commented on by their former sporting director, Leonardo, who said that PSG can win even without the presence of the 24-year-old striker.

"For the good of PSG, I think the time has come for Mbappe to leave, no matter what," said Leonardo in an interview with "L'Equipe".

"Paris-Saint-Germain existed before Kylian Mbappe and will exist after him. He has been in Paris for six years and, during those six seasons, five different clubs have won the Champions League. None of these clubs had Mbappe in their ranks. This means that it is completely possible to win this competition without him", added Leonardo.

The Brazilian had good words for Mbappe as a player, but he said the Frenchman is missing something important.

"With his behavior over the last two years, Mbappe is showing that he is not yet a player capable of really leading a team. He is a great player but not a leader. He is a great goalscorer but not a creator. It's difficult to build a team around him", emphasized Leonardo.

So, Mbappe is expected to leave in the coming days, while the favorite team to transfer him is Real Madrid.

The media also point out that Liverpool is also in the running for his transfer, but it remains to be seen during this summer who Mbappe's new team will be.

We remember that the Frenchman has been part of Paris since the summer of 2018, when he was transferred from Monaco for the amount of 180 million euros.

In total, he has played in 260 games in all competitions with the PSG shirt, of which he has scored 212 goals and provided 98 assists.
