Jamie Carragher has not spared words to criticize Arne Slot's Liverpool, who came out of the match with their second consecutive defeat: after the Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace, the Reds were defeated 1-0 in Istanbul by Galatasaray, punished by a penalty from Victor Osimhen.

For the former defender and now pundit, Liverpool "is not a top-level team", but "a total chaos", and accuses Slot of losing the balance that had made the Reds strong last season.

"Liverpool are not playing football today, they are playing basketball. They are going from one side of the pitch to the other without control: a big team cannot allow that," Carragher told CBS Sports.

Carragher has also targeted Florian Wirtz, who arrived this summer for over £100 million: "He's out of form, he looks out of context. He's young and will have time to grow, but for now he should be left out: Liverpool need to regain confidence and return to the compactness of last year. At the moment it's a disaster."

Despite having a perfect start to the season, with seven consecutive wins between the league and cups, Liverpool have begun to show worrying flaws. The defeat at Crystal Palace and the Champions League defeat against Galatasaray have put the spotlight on the problems of Arne Slot's team, still first in numbers, but not in appearances.

The former Liverpool captain has underlined that the warning signs were already evident in the matches he won: "It's not a question of results, but of the way he played. The signs were there from the start — Liverpool took too many risks even against Newcastle, who were down to ten men. And against Palace they allowed too many chances, more than any other team in the Premier League."

According to the former defender, the decline was predictable and now it is up to the coach to turn the situation around: "What has happened does not surprise me. Slot has to fix the situation." The Reds will try to rise on Saturday, in the big Premier League match against Chelsea.
