The Italian Carlo Ancelotti will be the coach of the Brazilian national team from the "Copa América" 2024, which will be organized in June and July next year in the USA, after his contract with Real Madrid ends. This news was confirmed by an AFP source from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
The CBF also said in a statement a few minutes ago that Fernando Diniz (Fluminense) will lead the five-time world champions until Ancelotti takes over. The 64-year-old Italian coach has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2024 and has publicly said that he wants to continue at the "Bernabeu" until then.
The announcement, made by a high-level source within the CBF, who did not want to be named, ends months of negotiations between the renowned Italian coach and the head of the Brazilian federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, who has always considered Ancelotti his favorite.
Brazilian coach Tite, in charge of the Selecao since 2016, stepped down after the defeat to Croatia in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar last December.
Ancelotti will become the fourth foreigner to take the reins of the Selecao, the first in almost 60 years. However, the Italian had stated on several occasions that he would retire after this last period on the Real Madrid bench, after almost 30 years on the field. But finally he was lured by Brazil, a country where football is "king".
The challenge is very ambitious. The five-time world champions are chasing their sixth star in more than 20 years, since their last title in 2002.
