Belinda Balluku

When SPAK requested the arrest of Belinda Balluku, in December 2025, the case was much easier than it is today. The parliament blocked it and since then prosecutors have added corruption, money laundering, hiding assets, seized villas and publicly declared that they have new evidence.

But even with other investigative actions, throwing food at the public that Balluku is being investigated, SPAK is not going beyond second gear to request the lifting of immunity.

And this is a new standard for SPAK, which in the past has moved quickly, imprisoning high-level politicians, businessmen, small officials and even journalists, even within 2 weeks, without even conducting a minimal investigation.

SPAK has argued to the GJKKO that leaving the person at liberty could jeopardize evidence, create opportunities for the crime to be repeated, or undermine the investigation.

But in the Belinda Balluku file, it seems as if SPAK's clock is ticking at a different pace. Even when facts emerge that Balluku has the entire state at her disposal to destroy evidence, prosecutors still don't move.

And this is no longer just about perception. It is enough to look at the case of Ilir Meta, where SPAK threw him in prison within 112 days.

On October 9, 2024, SPAK applied to the GJKKO for a security measure. On October 20, the Court imposed “prison arrest” and on October 21, the measure was executed. The offenses for which Meta was investigated included passive corruption, laundering of proceeds of crime, and failure to declare or falsely declare assets.

Belinda Balluku is being accused of the same crimes today. Because justice is not measured only by the number of people it puts in cells. It is also measured by the coherence of the standards it uses.

And what raises the most doubt is the fact that when SPAK uses two standards for politicians where attention is high, do you think how many standards are used for ordinary citizens?!
