The opening of online betting is postponed again, as the government is reviewing the law to strengthen supervision and avoid social problems. The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, said in the Economy Committee that, although the legal framework and the relevant VKMs have been completed, online betting will only be opened after this review.

"For 7 years, there has been no profit from betting in the state budget, you have no legal rights, and today it is completely informal and you are charging all this money to honest businesses," said Cara.

"We have completed the entire legal framework regarding online betting, the respective DCMs. The government is once again reviewing the law to have careful supervision to avoid social problems. Once the review of the current law is completed, the operation of gambling will begin," said Malaj.

The legal framework for online sports betting was completed with all bylaws 28 months after the adoption of the law, in February 2024, but the competition for licenses has not yet been opened. The law provides for the granting of 10 licenses and allows participation only online, through identification with an identity card. Physical betting points were closed on January 1, 2019.
