Prime Minister Eddi Rama has been in the US for several days. In a meeting with the Albanian community across the Atlantic, he said:
"Thank you for the hospitality. To be honest, when we were told last night that a big storm was coming, we thought it would be an obstacle for you to gather here, you not only gathered, but you also stopped the storm from what was predicted. I am glad to be here, where they say it is the only place in the world where I can find Ismail Qemali, Isa Boletini and Roosevelt next to each other.
We are in America, but this is a territory unofficially occupied by Albanians. We are here to share some things that have happened in the past. Here in Staten Island in 2015 I was at a dinner together with Hashim Thaçi and here we discussed the first Diaspora summit in Tirana and we were together with Thaçi. A decade after the summit, many things have happened.
Everything was related to the remittances that Albanians sent to support their families, but now a lot is happening and bridges have been built with interests, interests, investments and returns of Albanians to their homeland. In these years, there is an extraordinary fact that puts every immigrant on a special pedestal. Every Albanian family has benefited from the financial remittances of the diaspora, where 9 out of 10 Albanians have built a roof over their heads, are scholars or have improved their lives thanks to every relative in the diaspora.
This is a great honor that covers the diaspora with glory. But as I said, we are no longer in the phase where the diaspora gave and Albania only took, but we are in a strong connection and partnership, which has entered the path of development and where today we have organs of a new body that we have built. Diaspora institutions, councils, agencies and summits that help with various commitments.
We are creating a national registry of the diaspora as a window for those who want to invest even a little in Albania. The eggs that were thrown at me a few nights ago were also organic, showing that what is happening in Albania has integrated Albanians. One of the egg throwers had come from Britain to throw eggs. I hope he had a good time with the New York police.
Then, in the main group involved, there was an Albanian who worked here. Thanks to this connection between Albania and the diaspora, I found myself right in Albania, with protests and lots of Albanians. I was welcomed with a pink cake with two flamingos on top and I felt very good.
We no longer suffer the fact that animals and nature are killed and no one cares about them, but animals and nature are protected and people are concerned. The time has come when Albania says that there is even better and it is true that together we can do better every day for Albania and Albanians.
When he saw that some eggs were thrown at me, the chief of police of Albania, Pjerin Ndreu, came running. One of the best mayors, who also suffers from the fact that Lezha does not become the capital, left me a message to say something about the people of Lezha because there are some in the hall. You are lucky to have him," Rama said, among other things.
