Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the gala evening of the Council on Albanian-American Relations in New York, also touched on the recent debates about foreigners coming to Albania. Rama called for hospitality and openness to foreign projects.

"It is the moment for an extraordinary period, after we went through a period of humiliation, after if you said you were Albanian in Europe, you would find yourself in trouble, and now, while we have come to a point where everything could be better, we will have to find a solution, we need to do much more," Rama said.

"Without blaming the foreigners who are coming and taking our land, over the last few months I have heard disgusting slogans like 'Albania belongs to Albanians'," Rama said.

"But if it had been the same for those countries where Albanians went and flourished, imagine for a moment if America belonged to Americans, Italy to Italians, or Greece to Greeks, imagine where we would be," he said.

"Albania belongs to God and the period. Just as the Albanian's home belongs to God and his friend. There must be room for everyone who comes, whether for shelter or help," declared the prime minister.
