Media announcement:
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, called today a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss current issues and the impact they have on the activity of security institutions.
In addition to the members specified by law, the General Prosecutor's Office and SPAK were also invited to the meeting.
The Council discussed the situation and measures that should be taken by institutions to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation, cooperation with partners and allies, and strengthening public trust.
The meeting concluded that:
For national security, institutions do not compete with each other. They have different responsibilities, but serve the same interest: the security of the Republic of Albania. Any institutional distrust should be replaced with cooperation, coordination and professional communication.
Judicial investigations should be conducted completely independently and respected by all. Individual cases should not turn into a crisis of trust in the state and security institutions.
Institutions must show citizens that the system knows how to correct itself and protect the public interest. Our task is to strengthen standards, control, transparency, accountability and institutional cooperation.
Albania has institutions, it has international partners and allies, it has professionals and capacities. The institutions of the Republic must work together to strengthen the state, national security and the trust of citizens.
The National Security Council does not make decisions. It is an advisory body to the President of the Republic and supports the President in the exercise of constitutional and legal powers. Its meetings are held in camera.
