DP's public relations secretary resigns unexpectedly: This is a difficult but necessary decision

DP Public Relations Secretary Jola Hysaj has announced her resignation from her position.

In a long post on Facebook, she expresses dissatisfaction regarding the list of MPs in Durrës and the lack of openness of the party.

"After more than 20 years of uninterrupted engagement in political life and in service to citizens, I have made the decision to resign from all positions I have held and that have been entrusted to me by vote, as well as from my membership in the Democratic Party of Albania."

This is a difficult but necessary decision. It comes as a result of a series of developments and successive decisions that, in my judgment, have departed from the principles upon which a Democratic Party should be built and function.

Firstly, the way in which my function as Secretary for Public Relations was handled. While the public image and responsibility of this function continued to be used, the real powers that belong to this role. A function elected by vote by the members of the National Council were limited and in practice stripped of their content. This does not only violate an individual, but the very principle of representation that stems from the vote.

Second, the systematic exclusion from representation in municipal councils of people with competence and integrity, who have a proven contribution on the ground. Instead of open and meritocratic representation, decision-making has been concentrated in an increasingly narrow circle of people, turning political representation into a controlled process rather than a truly democratic one.

Third, the way the closed lists were compiled for the Durrës Region, where figures who have invested years of work and dedication in the field were left out. This is not just a personal issue, it is indicative of a decision-making culture that does not respect merit and contribution.

Fourth, the way this political force managed the process for the institution of the Ombudsman. In my judgment, this was a political and institutional mistake that damages the seriousness and credibility of the opposition.

But above all, the fundamental problem remains the lack of real openness within the Democratic Party. A political party should be a space for debate, ideas and representation. Today, unfortunately, it functions within a narrow circle of people, where there is often a lack of minimal respect not only for the base, but also for its own structures and hierarchy.

The form and manner of organization of the functioning of this political force has reached a point where even the members of the Presidency learn important decisions from the media and not from the party structures. This is not the way a democratic party should function nor the way its institutions are respected.

For all these reasons, I have decided to leave, preserving above all my personal and political integrity.

I would like to thank all the citizens, collaborators and supporters who have stood by me during this 20-year journey. Their trust has been my greatest motivation to work every day with responsibility and dedication.

"My commitment to contributing to citizens and public life does not end here. It will continue with the same belief that Albania needs a more open, meritocratic and honest policy towards citizens," she writes.
