Prime Minister Edi Rama seems to have taken seriously the plan to declare the Order of The Bektashis in Tirana as a sovereign state within the territory of Albania.
After Rama's statement to the New York Times, many thought it might just be a maneuvre to attract attention.
But Prime Minister Edi Rama today informed the United Nations Headquarters of this initiative.
In fact, The entire speech of Rama in the UN in front of the leaders of the globe, it seems, was built precisely to make this announcement.
Part of Ram's unsealed statement:
During World War II, Albania became the only country that had more Jews during the Holocaust. After the fall of Kabul, we housed several thousand Afghans. Albania has given the world its newest saint, Mother Teresa.
This is the principle of which Albania stands. This is the source of our inspiration to support the transformation of the Order, the center of the World Order of Bektashi into a sovereign state within our state of Tirana, as a new center of moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
