Prime Minister Edi Rama has called the protest held by a group of Tirana Municipality employees in front of SPAK during the hearing for the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj wrong.
Rama said he understands those who protested, due to disappointment and anger, but said that such a protest in front of SPAK should not be repeated.
"During these days I have seen among you people who are touched, desperate, and disappointed. Some of you even went to the door of the Special Court to protest, I understand their emotion, but it was a mistake that, no matter how innocent, should not be repeated again, neither by you nor by anyone who works in the offices of the Albanian state. You represent an autonomous power that should in no way appear on the territory of another power. I do not think differently from those who went there.
"He is being held in prison today with the status of a suspect, and this bell rings for those who want to listen, and not with the status of a defendant, let alone with the status of a convict. They have chosen for the mayor to stay in office, and not to stay in prison without trial," Rama declared.
