In several posts on social networks and in media reports circulating today, it is claimed that opposition leader Sali Berisha is no longer sanctioned with "non grata" status by the United States of America.

According to Lapsi.al , the alleged decision was communicated directly to Berisha through a telephone conversation with representatives of the US embassy in Tirana, while it is said that previous restrictions on travel to the US have been eased.

Through a reaction on social networks, Syri TV journalist Çim Peka also stated that American authorities have officially announced that Berisha is no longer part of the list of persons declared "non grata".

" Officially, Sali Berisha is no longer sanctioned. The US officially announces that he is no longer a non-grateful person. The right is submerged but not drowned!

"Stay tuned for more to come ," Peka writes.

However, to this moment there is no official public announcement from the US Department of State confirming the complete lifting of the "non grata" sanction, imposed in May 2021 on Berisha and his family.

This decision, initially announced by former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, was argued with accusations of significant corruption and the undermining of democracy in Albania, and has been one of the most controversial issues in Albanian politics in recent years.
