Nufi in the US, focus on modernization of the Armed Forces

The Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, held a meeting with Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays, Adjutant General of the New Jersey National Guard, as part of his official visit to the United States of America.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji.

The parties appreciated the 25 years of partnership between Albania and the New Jersey National Guard, a cooperation that, according to the Ministry of Defense, has made a significant contribution to the modernization and development of the Albanian Armed Forces.

During the talks, discussions focused on deepening cooperation in several priority areas, including strengthening the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps, military education, increasing cyber defense capacities, support for the full functionality of the Kuçova Air Base, as well as cooperation within NATO.

Minister Nufi particularly appreciated the support of the New Jersey National Guard in the professional development of the NCO Corps through training, mentoring and experience exchange programs.

"25 years of partnership have made a significant contribution to the modernization of our Armed Forces," said Nufi.

The parties also discussed current security challenges and the importance of increasing defense investments, in line with the commitments of NATO member countries.

The meeting confirmed the willingness to further expand strategic cooperation between Albania and the New Jersey National Guard, in order to strengthen regional and Euro-Atlantic security.

At the end of the visit, Minister Nufi awarded Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays the "Gold Medal of Military Service", in recognition of her contribution to strengthening military relations between the two countries and her continued support for the development of the capacities of the Albanian Armed Forces.
