The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, reacted after Prime Minister Edi Rama's speech at the meeting with socialist MPs.
According to him, Rama is not thinking about the fate of Belinda Balluku with the changes he seeks to make to the Code, but about himself.
"I believe him when he says that the changes to the Criminal Procedure Code have nothing to do with Belinda Balluku. Because today he is changing the law to give the Prime Minister an additional shield from SPAK. Edi Rama is proposing that the Prime Minister not be suspended from office if justice judges that he, for example, is destroying evidence in an investigation.
I believe Edi Rama when he says that he has rejected Belinda Balluku's resignation three times. Because his goal has never been to protect Belinda, but himself. Refusing the resignation is no longer a matter of loyalty. It is a matter of precedent. Amending the Criminal Procedure Code in the middle of an active criminal investigation into the Deputy Prime Minister is not done just for today. It is done for the day when justice can knock higher than the government's number two.
Therefore, I believe Edi Rama, because he is trying to establish a new political immunity for himself from SPAK. I believe it, because his goal is personal. He wants the function of Prime Minister not to be separated from Edi Rama's name, despite the evidence of justice against him. (And the McGonigal case is still under investigation. The issue of the government's stance on incinerators is still under investigation).
"I believe Edi Rama when he says that first there will be a vote on Belinda Balluku's immunity and then the Code will be changed. I believe him because he is thinking about himself again. He is thinking that the procedure will save him from the red lines. But the red lines do not disappear with the procedure. Not even with the eyes of the Albanians, the EU and the USA," he writes.
