Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke during the Delphi Economic Forum regarding the Fredi Beleri issue. Rama said that this issue created difficulties between the parties, but according to him, the relationship with his counterpart Mitsotakis was maintained with respect.
He said that the shared ambition is to resolve all issues between the two countries by the end of the year.
"But why should we go back to him? He's happy, he's an MEP. For him, everything ended in a way that any mayor who has been taken into custody would dream of, but they continue to be in prison. Today I have proof that at the time it seemed like a unique case."
And I have tried to explain to my dear friend Qirjakos that this is something to do with a model in our country after the justice reform that is becoming a problem.
"I can share with you, I'm not proud of this, but the judiciary is independent and we have to deal with this with patience. In Albania today we have 58% of people in prison who have not yet had a trial," he said.
"The Beleri issue created some difficulties in our relationship, there's no doubt about it, and that was an undoubted consequence. We've been respectful and open with each other, and I respect him for that."
We decided not to let our two countries be consumed by these kinds of quarrels, because something happened here or there. We need to resolve all issues once and for all between us.
Our ambition is to have an agreement on all issues next fall. We are very confident, for us there is no problem. We have the unresolved issue of the law of war.
"The great asset for us is the Greek minority and the asset for you is the Albanian citizens who are many and integrated," he added.
