Socialist MP Bora Muzhaqi has come out with a public reaction to German MEP Jutta Paulus, after the latter published on her social networks an e-mail that Albanian lawmakers had sent her regarding the Zvërnec case, in the European Parliament.

Muzhaqi says it is sad that MEP Jutta Paulus traveled to Albania yesterday and joined the protest outside Edi Rama's office, while she has never visited Albania before.

"It is unfortunate that an esteemed Green Member of the European Parliament should set such a poor example: firstly, by issuing a "clarification" without offering any apology for a significant factual inaccuracy, and secondly, by claiming that we have somehow misrepresented the situation to you."

"Traveling to protest in a country you have never visited before, accusing its government of things that are simply untrue, and then treating your refusal to engage with the factual information contained in our email as a badge of honor under the slogan "European law is not for sale" is, frankly, a rather sad error in judgment and political style," writes MP Bora Muzaqi.

The socialist MP emphasizes that she and Taulant Balla at no point asked MEPs to vote against environmental protection, but rather not to support amendments based on claims that did not correspond to the facts.

"Democratic debate is built on facts, not on narratives that promote propaganda against others. I sincerely hope that this exchange encourages you to reconsider your relationship with the truth of this case and to stop waging the rather absurd battle against the facts themselves," says Bora Muzhaqi.

German MEP Jutta Paulus, in her publication today, says that Bora Muzhaqi and Taulant Balla, shortly before the vote on the Albania 2025 Report, sent her and several other MEPs a letter about the Zvërnec case.

"In their letter, they expressly asked us, MEPs, not to support Amendments 4 and 17. Both MEPs claimed that the amendments were based on a disinformation campaign and distorted the situation surrounding the controversial project in Zvërnec," the MEP writes.
