The Chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, has commented on the recent tensions between Pristina and Tirana, as well as the political clashes between the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, and the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
In an interview with RTSH, Ahmeti emphasized that his and Rama's intentions have always been positive towards Kosovo and that they have never acted against it.
"We have never thought or worked against Kosovo; on the contrary, we have tried to work for the good of every political force in the country," he declared.
Ahmeti revealed that he has had several conversations with Prime Minister Rama to find ways to overcome the disagreements, including engaging international partners.
"We are not people without friends in Brussels and Washington who can influence Kosovo. Like me, like Rama, we have conveyed our concerns to Albin Kurti, but there has been no reaction," said the leader of the DUI, implying a lack of cooperation from the Pristina side.
The Albanian leader from North Macedonia called for more regional unity, especially at a time when Kosovo faces challenges in the European integration process.
"We need a lot of unity. There is a lot of work ahead for Kosovo for EU membership. We need to be together 'shoulder to shoulder', because the integration processes are important for Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia", Ahmeti stressed.
Referring to Kurti's interventions in North Macedonian affairs, Ahmeti said that he himself would not act in the same way.
"I personally would never interfere. Politics should create strength, not division," he concluded.
