"Crime of passion, it was with a man" - Rama talks about the beating

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during an interview with journalist Rudina Xhunga on the Prime Minister's Speech podcast, was asked about his childhood and some allegations made by political opponents that he was bullied.

Rama said he has never been bullied, while recounting two episodes in his life when he was raped.

"If I were to go back to that time to find one trait that could foreshadow the nature of the leader I later became, I would say it was the trait of not accepting boundaries."

Ever since I was little, I didn't accept boundaries as imposition or fate. I always tried to break them, to push them...

Always doing something that the boundary said, 'Don't do it.' And rejecting boundaries, pushing boundaries, has motivated me my whole life, whether in the way I live or in the Academy of Arts.

I have tried since the beginning, before the movement began at the Academy, which then defined a direction for what became a broader movement, with programs, with rules that had to be respected.

I was a rebel, I broke almost every boundary, but I was never bullied. I have had two fights in my life, where I didn't beat myself up but I was beaten up. One was in the doubles of the Partizani sports palace after the match with Apollonija.

It was a tense match, and since I, as a player, was sometimes a provocateur, I paid for the provocations and counter-provocations and tension on the field with a viciously fast attack from some guys, and I took several hits and fell to the floor.

The other is the world-famous beating of January 1997 when they ambushed me on the road leading to the entrance of the house and left me thinking I belonged to that world.

"This was also the opinion of the doctor here and the one in France, and they said that my height had saved me, because the blows are somehow less effective when you are taller than the one who is attacking you. Even the sport, my physique," said Rama.

Regarding the statements made by Sali Berisha that when she was raped in '97 she was with a man, Rama gave this response:

"They are reproduced by a depraved mouth that I don't want to deal with, I deal only when the campaign imposes it on me. Now it is beyond any age limit that you can say is neglected and it is so clear that not only was there no connection to a crime of passion and I was not with a man, but I was with a girl I lived with and with a friend who lived in our apartment, because he was from Shkodra.

One of them is completely known to me, one has repented, now he has passed away, the other has not admitted it and I have not even asked him, but he repented in another way by showing friendship...", he added further regarding the people who raped him.
