Rama dismissed the Interior Minister without an explanation and leaving his fate

In a formal announcement from his office in the presence of Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari, Prime Minister Rama announced his dismissal from office on Friday without giving a clear motivation for the decision.

According to the official announcement, Lamallari will leave the ministry to join the Prime Minister's staff without making clear what role he will have going forward.

Rama has decided to entrust this department to Ervin Demos, who held the position of Minister of Local Government, by merging both ministries into a single structure.

"...Ervini, the current Minister of Local Government, will cover Internal Affairs, where we will also integrate local issues, something that is not new to the history of the ministry, but which, after having taken a much more complete form while being separate, will now become part of the structure of the ministry's work departments," Rama said, among other things, in a video posted on Facebook.

Rama praised Lamallari's work and his integrity, adding that 'the needs of the team are above all individuals'.

Lamallari, a lawyer by profession, began his political career initially as Deputy Minister of Interior and then as Minister of Justice and Minister of Interior since March of this year.

Speaking in the presence of the Prime Minister, he called this task a privilege and expressed his gratitude to Rama for the duties he has held.

"I have tried never to disappoint you," he told the prime minister.

This is the second change in the government in a few days, after a few days ago, Health Minister Evis Sala, a doctor with an international career who Rama presented as 'hope for the future of the health service', left the cabinet.

Sala justified her departure after a year in office with the decision to return to her career as a scientist, while Rama has proposed Durrës MP Klodiana Spahiu in her place.

The changes to the government will need to be approved by parliament to come into effect. (BIRN)
