Kylian Mbappe has made Champions League history, breaking Lionel Messi's record for the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in the prestigious European competition.

The French striker achieved this figure at the age of 27, to be exact 27 years and 298 days, in Real Madrid's match against Roma, held on Wednesday night.

The previous record was held by Lionel Messi, who had recorded his 100th Champions League appearance at the age of 28 years and 84 days, in September 2015, also in a match against Roma.

Mbappe made this achievement even more special by scoring against the Italian team, registering his 72nd goal in the Champions League and passing Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez on the list of all-time top scorers in the competition.

The Frenchman made his Champions League debut in September 2016, when he was just 17 years old, playing for Monaco.

Last season, Mbappe finished as the Champions League's top scorer with 15 goals, while continuing to establish himself as one of the most decisive strikers in European football.
