Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari requested 12 years in prison for Leopoldo Luque, the neurosurgeon who led the medical team responsible for the health of Diego Maradona, who died on November 20, 2020, at the age of 60. Luque is accused of possible premeditated murder, with aggravating circumstances due to his profession as a doctor and his friendship with the former champion.
The prosecution requested 8 years in prison for Nancy Forlini, coordinator of the health insurance company "Swiss Medical", and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov; 5 years for psychologist Carlos Diaz and 4 years for nurse Ricardo Almiron and his superior, Mariano Perroni. Doctor Pedro Di Spagna was found not guilty.
Prosecutor Ferrari stated: "The prosecution has proven beyond any reasonable doubt the existence of an anarchic structure, characterized by absolute disorganization. This group of amateurs was led by Leopoldo Luque.
"Maradona was abandoned to his fate. In the house where he was staying there were no gloves, gauze, serum, first aid kit, defibrillator or ambulance. His death could have been prevented and the medical care was inadequate. They forgot that they were in the hands of the life of a vulnerable patient, with a complex health condition."
