The cleanest star in the Universe is surprisingly close to Earth

A star born after the Big Bang has been discovered, uncontaminated and very close to Earth, in astronomical terms. It is called SDSS J0715-7334, it is a red giant within the Milky Way and has an extremely low metal content, which according to scientists, may belong to primitive generations of celestial bodies that were created a few hundred million years after the birth of the Universe, which dates back 13.8 billion years.

The full profile of this star has been published in the journal Nature Astronomy and was discovered and observed thanks to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-V and the Magellan telescope in Chile.

According to the research team, this star was created elsewhere in the cosmos, perhaps in the Large Magellanic Nebula, and then was pulled into our galaxy over time.

Discovery/ The cleanest star in the Universe is surprisingly close to Earth

The Big Bang gave rise to the Universe as a hot, turbulent mixture of energetic particles. Over time, this material spread out, began to cool, and condense into neutral hydrogen gas. Some areas were denser, and after hundreds of millions of years, due to gravity, the material collapsed, giving rise to the first generation of stars, formed from helium and hydrogen in a primitive state. These stars died young, but the explosions gave rise to new stars classified as the second generation, with a wider range of elements and the presence of heavy elements, i.e. metals.

And the newly discovered star is almost entirely composed of helium and hydrogen and has only 0.005% metal content, so it's almost as pure as the beginning of time.
