A horrific accident occurred in Mexico when a small boat transporting tourists was hit hard by a whale, causing it to soar into the air.

The video released by the authorities in Mexico shows the moment of the strong clash.

Three passengers were slightly injured, while two others were taken to hospital.

Authorities say another passenger was taken by Navy personnel to a clinic.

The civil defense spokesman said people on the boat may not have known the whale was under water at that point, so there was a sudden accident.

"The whale came to the surface of the water and lifted the boat into the air," he said.
