A cute dog of a couple from Pennsylvania, USA, enjoyed the most expensive meal of his life a few weeks ago, after consuming $4,000 worth of bills that his owners had taken from the bank and placed on the kitchen counter theirs at home.
Cecil, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever and Poodle cross, is usually a very intelligent dog, according to his owners, Clayton and Carrie Law. Although he doesn't tend to chew things and do damage, it seems that he recently decided to... try new things. Unfortunately for the couple, one of those things was the large amount of money they had just withdrawn from their joint bank account. Just half an hour after withdrawing the money, the dog found the money on the counter and started chewing and swallowing it.

"Suddenly Clayton yells at me 'Cecil is eating $4,000!' I thought I hadn't heard him right. I almost had a heart attack," said Carrie, speaking to a local newspaper about the incident.
According to The Guardian, when the couple were still panicking to see what Cecil had done, most of the bills were already in their stomachs and only scattered pieces were left on the floor. Concerned about their dog's health, they immediately called the vet to ask what they should do. He reassured them, telling them to keep an eye on the dog for the next few hours and if he showed weakness or other symptoms, to bring him in for care.
Somewhat calmer, the couple began efforts to "assemble" the torn banknotes that had been swallowed. After speaking to the bank – which told them such incidents happen frequently – they were told there was a way to get their money back if they produced parts of the notes with the serial number visible.
For the rest, they would have to follow a much more unpleasant process, waiting for the dog to take it out.

"We would stand at the sink and wash the money smeared with feces, celebrating when we found one. It smelled so bad!” Carrie says of the terrifying experience. "I never expected to be involved in money laundering, but in the end there is a first time for everything," he added humorously.
After cleaning up and checking the torn receipts, the couple managed to get most of the money back, losing only $450.
