Key signs that someone may be lying include avoiding eye contact and speaking nervously, and even those with a great 'poker face' sometimes have telltale signs.

A study of 2,000 adults found that the vast majority thought they were slightly better than others when it came to being able to spot liars.

When it comes to the signs they see in people who lie, the main things they note are nervous shaking of their hands, fidgeting in their chairs, and tremors in their hands and voice.

About 42 percent of them said they are able to tell when others are lying to them, while only 9 percent think they are bad at it.

“Body language is not an exact science, and when you're looking for signs of a lie, there is no perfect body language that will tell you everything, there are only clues and hints. As with many things, the better you get to know someone, the easier you will be able to tell if they are lying or not," explained body language expert Judy James.

The research, conducted by OnePoll, also revealed when people think it's a good time to use a lie. They consider the best scenarios when someone asks if they like what they're wearing and they don't (25 percent), and when someone makes them a terrible meal (23 percent).

The expert shows some other things that can tell you that someone is lying to you:

- increased pulsation

-raising his eyebrows

-making hand gestures towards the face or touching the nose

-playing with hair or clothes

-change in face color
