Moldova has made a surprise decision to withdraw from this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Basel.
According to foreign media, the news comes just a few days after the country held auditions for the national finals, and it seems those auditions played a big role in their decision.
Accordingly, the director of the "Moldova 1" network, Corneliu Durnescu, said that the lack of quality "created a negative perception" of Eurovision.
“ The decision was not easy, but necessary in the current context. This year's national selection highlighted several challenges, including declining public interest and the overall quality of the songs and artistic performances. This created a negative perception among experts and the public, highlighting the need for a significant reform in the selection process ,” he said.
However, the state broadcaster will broadcast both semi-final nights and the grand final of Eurovision.
