The sound of the Earth's magnetic field is recorded for the first time:

Despite being essential to life on Earth, the magnetic field is not something we can see or hear in ourselves.

But scientists at the Technical University of Denmark have taken magnetic signals measured by ESA's Swarm satellite mission and converted them into sound.

The result is very scary and you can listen to it here.

Our magnetic field is created largely by an ocean of superheated liquid iron that makes up the outer core about 3,000 km below our feet. Acting like a rotating conductor in a bicycle dynamo, it creates electric currents, which in turn generate our ever-changing electromagnetic field, writes The European Space Agency.

Since 2013, ESA's trio of Swarm satellites are being used to understand exactly how our magnetic field is created by precisely measuring the magnetic signals emanating not only from the Earth's core, but also from the mantle, crust and oceans, as well as from ionosphere and magnetosphere.
