The first floating city

The idea of a floating city may sound like a science-fiction movie script, but it will become a reality in the coming years in Busan, South Korea, where scientists with UN support are building the world’s first floating city.

The project is called Oceanix and despite being announced a year ago, new images from the preparation for its implementation have been published. These images show interconnected platforms that will cover 15.5 acres, be connected by bridges and can accommodate at least 12,000 people.

The cost of building the floating city is estimated to reach $ 200 million and is expected to be completed in 2025.

In a statement, OCEANIX CEO Philipp Hoffman said: “We are well on our way to providing OCEANIX Busan and proving that floating infrastructure can create new ground for coastal cities looking for sustainable ways to expand in the ocean as they adapt to rising sea levels ”.
