Kim Kardashian has revealed that she changed her name shortly before she and her family rose to fame on the hit reality show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
"I always used the name Kimberly until we signed the contract to do the reality show. When I saw my name on screen: 'Kimberly Kardashian,' I said, 'I think it's too long for people. Let's just shorten it to Kim,'" the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star, 45, said in an interview with "Time."
"And it's so weird, because all my friends from high school and childhood, as well as my dad; they all call me Kimberly."
The Skims founder, who is known for using her name on various entrepreneurial brands, also received credit for convincing her entire family to accept the reality show.
"I think I was the one who convinced everyone, without a doubt. I really wanted this! I've wanted to do a reality show since the day MTV's 'The Real World' came out and I saw it with my best friend," Kardashian revealed, adding: "I saw it and I was like, 'This is what I'm going to do.' And she was like, 'I'm going to be your manager.' I think we were 11 at the time. I was like, 'When we turn 18, we should do a recording and send it to 'The Real World.'"

Although Kim's manager later became her mother, Kris Jenner, she began working with the producers of "The Real World" after "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" was backed by Bunim/Murray, the company that also produced the MTV series.
The "All's Fair" star also confessed that she had convinced her sisters, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, as well as her mother, Kris Jenner, that this show would be an opportunity to promote their clothing store, Dash, which no longer exists.
"The main reason we wanted to start the show was to bring attention to our Dash store, at least that's how I managed to convince the sisters," she said.
“I told them it would bring an incredible promotion to our store. And as soon as they heard that, they agreed.”
“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” ended in 2021, after 14 years on the E! Network. The family has since continued the series on streaming platforms, under the title “The Kardashians” on Hulu.
