Last night in France, the Miss pageant was held and immediately after the announcement of the winner, a strange debate broke out on social networks. Ev Gilles' haircut upset the French audience. The public claims the jury took sides.

Ev is the first winner in the 103-year history of the Miss France pageant who does not have long hair.

"We are used to seeing beautiful girls with long hair, but I chose an androgynous look with short hair," said Ev.

She described her victory as a "diversity victory" adding that every woman is different and that they are all unique. 

In France, the winner is chosen by half the votes of the audience and the other half of the jury. Gilles was third in the public vote, but the jury awarded her first place. This move by the jury has met with disapproval on social networks.

"I refuse to accept that this is the most beautiful woman in France," writes one commenter.
