An unusual discovery has occurred in Belgium, where workers renovating a house found gold worth around 9 million euros hidden in the basement walls.

Workers were carrying out work on a property in East Flanders, where they were digging foundations to lay new sewage pipes. During the work, they discovered a large quantity of coins and gold bars.

Among them was 18-year-old Kobe, who was working during his summer vacation. He said he initially thought he had found ordinary coins.

"At first I thought they were 1 euro coins. But then we also saw a piece of gold and realized it was something bigger," he told Belgian public television VRT.

The workers immediately notified the police and did not attempt to keep the gold for themselves. The site manager said the quantity was so large that it would be impossible to hide.

The property currently belongs to CAW Oost-Vlaanderen, an organization that provides social assistance and support. Its director said he hopes that if the organization benefits from this property, the money will be used to help people in need.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to find out who the gold belongs to and how it ended up hidden in the building. The gold has been moved to a safe location, while police have urged citizens not to go to the site to search for other treasures.

Under Belgian law, the rightful owner has five years to claim the treasure. If no one comes forward and if it is discovered that the gold is not linked to any criminal activity, the treasure can be divided between the finder and the property owner.

For now, it remains a mystery who hid the gold and who will have the right to the property, which is estimated at around 9 million euros.
