Brad Pitt has spoken openly about his relationship with alcohol, revealing that after seven years of abstinence, he has started drinking again, but in a limited way.

In a new interview with Esquire, the 62-year-old actor said: "I was sober for seven years. And then I went off the streets again."

Pitt explained that his return to alcohol hasn't been a return to his previous drinking habits. He says he now keeps it under control and drinks much more moderately.

"I did it in a more restrained way," the actor said, admitting that at times he had been overconfident that he could control the situation. According to him, when he realized that excessive consumption "wasn't good for him," he set limits again.

"I can have a few drinks, but I can't drink too much. I have to be a professional about it," Pitt said. He added that he now enjoys breakfast more and doesn't want a night of drinking to ruin his day.

Pitt had quit drinking after the difficult period that followed his split from Angelina Jolie in 2016. He joined a 12-step program and later revealed that the support of people who were facing the same battle was essential for him.

In later years, the actor has spoken out several times about his relationship with alcohol and the need to cope with personal problems without relying on booze. He has also cited actor Bradley Cooper as one of the people who helped him on his journey to sobriety.

Pitt's new confession comes as he continues to speak more openly about the most difficult periods of his life, describing his relationship with alcohol not as a story with a clear beginning and end, but as something that constantly required self-control.
