Cancer is one of the diseases with the highest mortality in the world.

Data from official authorities show that in our country every year about 5500 new cases of this disease are registered. Lung and breast cancer are the most affected. The Institute of Public Health says that the number of men affected by cancer is 4 times higher than that of women.

This disease affects many organs in the body: breast, lungs, head, skin, colon, kidneys, but very rarely the heart.

Why the heart is not so easily affected by cancer

Experts explain that although the heart can be at risk of cancer, tumor cells are usually benign, so not deadly. To understand more clearly the reasons why the heart has this shield against this disease, you must first learn how cells work.

Every cell in the body has the potential to become bad or cancerous. This disease originates precisely from the mutation of the cell's DNA. Before a cancer cell becomes lethal it undergoes a series of mutations. Most of these occur when the cell divides and remodels its DNA.

The only way for a cell to mutate is to divide and multiply. Heart cells on the other hand do not replicate and form new cells except in cases of injury. Since heart cells do not divide, the likelihood of mutation is extremely small. Let's take a look at how breast, colon and skin tumors form.

Most cells are replaced with new ones all the time. Breast tissue for example is constantly affected by hormones, the lining of the colon is constantly being replaced, the same goes for the skin. Since cells mutate all the time, this is the reason why these diseases are more widespread. The heart is completely different, which is not exposed to external or internal carcinogens, but only to cells in the blood that do not mutate.
