Some videos harm your mental health, here's what you should avoid on

New research has found that watching extreme weight loss TikTok videos can harm your mental health.

Spending time on this social network, and especially viewing content that promotes anorexia, damages young women's self-esteem and increases the risk of eating disorders, according to a study from Charles Sturt University in Australia.

"Our research showed that less than 10 minutes of exposure to TikTok content promoting anorexia had immediate negative consequences on creating an ideal body image," the study authors said.

They added that a negative psychological impact can occur even when female users do not necessarily seek out this type of content and use this social network for a short time.

To combat this problem, the authors of the study recommend stricter controls and regulations regarding the promotion of anorexia, eating disorders and TikTok content that promotes the "ideal" body.

"Steps are currently being taken to remove dangerous content, including blocking hashtags such as #anorexia. However, there are various ways in which users bypass these controls and further regulation is needed," the authors of the study pointed out.
