There are destinations where tourists go to enjoy the food, aroma and taste of local specialties, but there are also destinations where tourists avoid local foods. Of the countries near us, of course, are all the countries from the region, from Slovenia to Macedonia, from Italy to Greece. Here we can find popular foods that are enjoyed wherever you come from.

However, it must be said that there are other destinations that tourists avoid local cuisine and cooking. The countries of our region are known for their good and tasty food, and every tourist returning from a trip takes with him good memories and at least a few extra kilos.

A good meal and pleasure can be found in any place around, but there are places where it is not very popular to eat, at least not local food. Britain is traditionally known as a country where the food is rather tasteless, specific and strange, and is followed immediately by the Netherlands, Finland, often Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union. Their food is based on local ingredients which, at least for us Balkans, are not tempting and edible.

Among the worst, all types of salted and fermented fish, the offal of various animals, as well as some types of local vegetables should be singled out. The restaurants in these countries are excellent, but we are only talking about local and national specialties.

From distant countries, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Nepal, Jamaica, as well as most African countries are included. Tourists often state that in some places the food is not unpleasant, but due to the limited selection of food items, it is quite limited and uninteresting and therefore monotonous.

Many online portals still single out the Philippines as the place where you can eat the worst local food. Balut is one of the "specialties" offered there and should be avoided. It is a bird's egg with an embryo that is eaten directly from the eggshell after cooking.
