There are millions of cows in the world, but one is different from the others.

Named Supercow Viatina-19 FIV Mara Moveis, the cow in question holds the world record for the highest price ever sold at auction, a whopping $4.2 million.

The record was also certified by the Guinness Book of Records, in July 2023.

The Brazilian cow weighs about 1,100 kilograms, twice the average weight of its breed. The cattle industry in the South American country is one of the largest sources of income for the economy.

Brazil is the world's largest exporter of beef, and the Viatinia-19 breed represents farmers' efforts to achieve perfection.

The $4 million cow is the result of years of breeding work to achieve the best possible individual.

"We are trying to increase the number of elite cow individuals. And at the end of the day we will feed the whole world", said one of the owners of the cow to "The Associated Press".


But what makes this cow so special? According to Lorrany Martins, a veterinarian and the daughter of one of her owners, the price is based on three factors: muscularity, fertility and the ability to pass on positive effects to the calves that will be born.

According to her, breeders are willing to pay $250,000 to get cow ovaries.

"It's the closest individual to perfection, at least so far," Martins said. "It is the perfect cow, it has all the characteristics that breeders are looking for."
