Prime Minister Albin Kurti, also the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, has come up with a new proposal for the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), with less than four hours left before Kosovo goes to new elections. Kurti has said that they are ready to vote first on the second reading of the amendments to the Law on the Special Court, if the PDK pledges to participate in the presidential election.
The names proposed by Kurti are Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushiti - names he had proposed even before the elections, which were held on June 7.
In a press conference, Kurti said that they will vote on the law in second reading if they (PDK) think that non-respect of the 72-hour deadline between two readings constitutes a problem.
"The PDK rejected our offer to support Beskim Sejdiu. I believe that, in the event of a positive response from them, Sejdiu would return to the race. Besides him, of course, we have two other names, whom we have presented as presidential candidates this year – Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushiti. Both are still candidates, if there is interest from the opposition. The newest proposal is this: since the PDK leader, Bedri Hamza, is unable to meet with us, let him come out publicly tonight and pledge that the entire PDK parliamentary group will participate in the vote to elect the president – whether for, abstain or against. After this pledge, we will vote for them on the second reading of the law, if they think that not respecting the 72-hour deadline between the two readings is not a problem. We will vote for them on the law and immediately after that we will move on to voting for the president," Kurti said.
Kurti said that the connection between the draft law amending the Law on Special and the election of the president was made by the PDK leader, Bedri Hamza, on September 25.
"For example, if we vote on the second reading, but we don't have a president and we go to the elections, then who will implement it? With which government will it be implemented? How is it possible to believe that you vote on the law on the second reading tonight, and tomorrow we go to the elections and the campaign begins, and to hope for its full implementation with the best wishes... Do we want a national state strategy or electoral rivalry ," said Kurti.
He said that even if the court rejects the amendment to the Law on Special, it can be returned to the Assembly. But he says that if the president is not elected tonight, then the Assembly will be defeated.
He said that PDK chairman Bedri Hamza has cut off communications with him today.
