The European Union formally proposes to member states to completely ban the import of Russian oil.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, presented this morning the sixth package of sanctions and said that the member states should do their best to face this situation.

" We propose a ban on Russian oil. Let's be clear: it will not be easy. But we just have to do it. We must make sure that we will gradually move away from Russian oil. "To maximize pressure on Russia while minimizing the impact on our economies ," Von der Leyen said in a Twitter post.

Hungary and Slovakia, which are highly dependent on Russian fuels and have no alternatives, are seeking their exclusion from the measure, while other member states are expected to propose changes, each with its own reasons.
