Vucic rejects the Russian base, Stoltenberg: We have our forces ready in Kosovo,
Stoltenberg and Vucic

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has stated that the alliance has increased its security forces in Kosovo, through KFOR, based on the situation of last week after the unrest in the North of Kosovo.

After the meeting with Serbian President Vucic, in a joint press conference, Stoltenberg emphasized that KFOR forces will act if necessary.

"We have the forces ready and we will act when necessary. We have increased our presence in the North. I have been informed in detail about their placement. Our movement will reflect the need and challenge that may be presented to us on the ground. KFOR also works with other actors, such as the EULEX police".

While the President of Serbia said that violence should be rejected.

"Barricades and violence are not systematic implementations. The question is how we interpret the issue of violence. We have limited opportunities to intervene in the North. Don't expect the Serbs to stand by and watch. It has nothing to do with me, it's a bigger issue, there are generations that don't see Kosovo as a free territory, they see it as a territory of Serbia".

Vucic also criticized the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, whom he said is using this situation politically.

"There is nothing new in Kurt's narrative about Serbia, he simply uses the current political situation. What we want is a rational approach, a compromise agreement between both sides. We have to talk to each other, how will we find a solution, but I reject this kind of narrative and I expect an apology for all the fabrications that are said against Serbia".

They also discussed the war in Ukraine, with NATO asking Serbia to join international sanctions against Russia, but without receiving a response from Vucic.

However, Vucic confirmed that no foreign military base, including Russia, will be built in Serbia.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will also meet with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with whom he will hold a joint press conference at the end.
