Europe is facing a significant increase in concern about relations with the United States, as differences between key figures in the American administration are becoming increasingly apparent.

According to a Politico report, European diplomats view US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a "solid" and relatively trustworthy figure, while Vice President JD Vance is widely perceived as a destabilizing and hostile factor towards Europe.

The report quotes over ten European diplomats and officials, who spoke anonymously, emphasizing that JD Vance is not considered an ally of Europe, neither on the Greenland issue nor in transatlantic relations as a whole.

"Vance hates us," a European diplomat told Politico, adding that his direct involvement in the talks in Washington was a negative signal for any potential compromise.

According to the same source, Vance has gained a strong negative reputation on the continent, especially after his public clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office last year, as well as harsh criticism of Europe for refusing to cooperate with far-right forces and for its dependence on the US on security issues.

These positions, according to diplomats, make Vance an ideological and unpredictable figure.

In stark contrast, Marco Rubio is described by European officials as "more aligned with Europe's priorities," particularly in the area of ??security and support for Ukraine.

European concerns have increased particularly over Greenland, after President Donald Trump has openly stated that he wants “ownership” of the island for national security reasons. According to diplomats quoted by Politico, the involvement of JD Vance in these talks increases fears that Washington may seek not compromise, but imposition.

Although recent talks in Washington did not result in direct escalation, European diplomats remain skeptical.
