According to sources reported by the Israeli Foreign Ministry's Persian-language X account, Erfan Soltani, the young Iranian who became a symbol of the protests in Iran, "was brutally murdered while in the custody of the Islamic Republic," Rainews writes.

Arrested during a demonstration on charges of propagandizing against the Islamic system and acting against national security, he was sent to prison in Karaj, outside Tehran.

Iranian prosecutors had denied the death penalty in a statement reported by state television. But since yesterday evening, news has spread on social media that Soltani has in fact been killed.

A close relative of the young man discovered the murder of Erfan Soltani in Karaj prison.

The information was then shared in an Instagram post by Sholeh Pakravan, the mother of Reyhaneh Jabbari, a woman executed in 2014 for the murder of her rapist.

It is currently unclear whether the woman is currently in Iran or abroad.
